Dr. Hans Esberg Papers

Attempts by those trapped in Nazi Germany and occupied Europe to communicate with family members in the United States were not always successful. The letter from the wife of a U.S. soldier serving in Europe, below, refers to a letter written by Dr. Esberg's mother. His mother's letter was written in March 1943, but did not reach Dr. Esberg until May 1945. Later correspondence to Dr. Esberg from another family member reports that his mother was transported to Theresienstadt shortly after she wrote the letter, and that she had died of illness while there.
