Fritz and Wilhemina Lokesch Letter
With no relatives in the USA, this couple wrote to a stranger in San Francisco, seeking an affidavit of support so that they could emigrate to America.
They were not successful. The couple was sent to Theresienstadt (a ghetto in Czechoslovakia created by the Nazis as a “model Jewish settlement”) on May 15, 1942. Fritz was transported from there to Auschwitz in October 1944, and perished before the war ended. Wilhemina, a doctor, survived and emigrated to Israel, where she lives today.
