Mosenthal Family Papers

Those who were lucky enough to escape Nazi Germany for safety in the United States often had to leave beloved family members behind. Quota systems for emigration made escaping from Germany difficult for Jews facing persecution.

The letters below illustrate the anguish of those attempting to bring their family members to safety. The children of Mrs. Kathi Mosenthal pled with the State Department for help. The reply was not the answer they were hoping to receive.
